CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- Charlotte – Mecklenburg schools (CMS) students are tackling bullying in their schools. About 100 CMS students participated in the third annual Engage Summit.

The purpose of the summit is to have students come up with strategies to curb bullying.  Organizers say the summit is needed to help students succeed in school.

"Anything that is going to get in the way of a child's ability to learn," CMS representative John Concelman said. "To have the safe environment to learn is something we need to be sitting down at the table altogether."
  
Students from about 30 different schools shared with their peers about what is working at their schools.  At Northwest school of the Arts, students created a mentoring program to help their classmates who are dealing with bullying.

RALEIGH, NC (WBTV)- The measles outbreak reported earlier this month in North Carolina is spreading, according to the latest numbers from state health officials.

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services public health officials and staff from local health departments are now investigating 19 cases of measles in Stokes, Orange and Polk counties as part of an outbreak that was first reported in mid-April, according to a news release from the NC Department of Health and Human Services. 

Since the outbreak began, state and local public health authorities have notified more than 1,000 people in Stokes, Forsyth, Guilford, Orange, Polk and Chatham counties who may have been exposed to the disease. 

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV)- With Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx headed to Washington, the question remains who's in and who's out when the race for mayor begins later this year.

There appears to be lots of movement already for the democrats. Many eyes are on State Senator Malcolm Graham, the Mecklenburg representative who fought to keep Charlotte Douglas International in local hands, but Graham may not be the only person who could jump in the race who's with to the general assembly.

Observers say that State Senator Dan Clodfelter like Graham is a former city council member, and sources say that state representative Becky Carney who is a former county commissioner may also be eyeing the mayor's job.

It is widely known in many circles that Charlotte Mayor pro tem Patrick Cannon is interested in what appears to be taking what seems to be the most logical step.

So far just one republican has expressed an interest in the job.
